A modern Jesus boldly rises from the dead, liberating all kinds of people, in a new Easter painting by Doug Blanchard. A rainbow seems to shoot from the clasped hands of Jesus and another man. It comes from his new version of “The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision.”

This year’s Easter image comes from the new version of “The Passion of Christ: A Gay Vision,” known as the Large Passion. Standing up for justice and love leads to pain, prison, death and ultimately resurrection for a contemporary urban Jesus in the 20 new paintings.
