Happy Easter! Christ is risen!
A rainbow shines a queer light from the empty tomb of Jesus in this year’s Easter image: “The Rainbow Remains” by Immanuel Paul Vivekanandh. “The stone rolled away from the tomb becomes the doorway for queer liberation,” he explains. Vivekanandh came from India to study as a PhD candidate at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
Please give now to the 2026 Easter offering at my GoFundMe page — or click the donate button above. The Easter offering supports my work at Q Spirit / Jesus in Love for LGBTQ spirituality and the arts. You can also sign up to give monthly. Many thanks to everybody who contributed to my 2026 Holy Week offering!
Rainbow shines from the empty tomb
Vivekanandh discussed the meaning of “The Rainbow Remains” in a reflection that he shared with Q Spirit. It includes these lines:
“The rainbow is not just a symbol of God’s promise to never again destroy the earth—it is the arc of love bending toward justice. And at the empty tomb, that arc meets its fire. The colors are not decorative; they are declarative. Each hue screams: queer lives belong. Trans bodies, nonbinary beauty, gay love, lesbian power, asexual peace, intersex truth—all find affirmation in the resurrected Christ. The tomb could not hold Jesus, and neither will it hold queer people in the shrouds of shame, death, or silence.”
